New York's legal weed market passes $4 billion in total sales
State regulators say adult-use sales have hit about $4.1 billion since late 2022, with $512.6 million in the third quarter of 2026 alone.
New York just crossed a big round number. At a Cannabis Control Board meeting in early October, the Office of Cannabis Management said licensed dispensaries have sold roughly $4.1 billion in adult-use cannabis since sales started in late 2022.
The money keeps coming. Third-quarter 2026 sales came in at $512.6 million, putting the year at $1.41 billion through September. Back in March, at the five-year anniversary of legalization, officials were citing $3.3 billion in total sales.
Regulators also said 56% of adult-use licenses have gone to social and economic equity applicants. At the same meeting, the board opened a new application window for nursery licenses and extended the provisional license period for equity and provisional businesses.
Why it matters: A legal market doing half a billion dollars a quarter is a useful data point while Massachusetts voters decide whether to shut their stores down.
